Our Philosophy: Hands-on in the vineyard, hands-off in the winery.

To ensure our fruit has concentrated flavours the cropping levels are kept to a minimum and the canopy is carefully managed. The 2009 vintage was made under contract and the resulting wines are, a Dry Riesling, a Traditional Oaky Chardonnay and a blended red with Pinotage and Tempranillo.

The 2010 vintage will be made on the premises by us and we are looking forward to enjoying the wine we have nurtured from pruning to picking.

Our Wine

Gewürztraminer 2011
Hand picked at dawn on the 12th April at 25brix the fruit was then whole bunch pressed and left to ferment with wild yeast in old oak barrels. Fermentation was stopped early leaving 50g/l Residual sugar. 25 cases of this wine were produced.

This low-acid wine has a smooth, rich texture with generous aromas of turkish delight, lychees and geranium.

Gewürztraminer

The Merger 2011
This blend of Tempranillo and Pinotage fruit was hand harvested on the 23rd April, the fruit was destemmed and left to cold soak for a week before fermentation then matured for 10 months in French oak.

The wine has a deep purple colour with ripe red fruit flavours of plum, tamarillo and dark cherries with a touch of cracked black pepper.

Savoury and dense, this wine shows a good depth with firm, ripe tannins as well as earthy and spicy notes. Enjoyable now, but cellaring will give more texture and harmony.

The Merger

Pinotage 2011
The grapes were hand picked at 26 Brix on the 23rd April. The 336 plants yielded 739kg of fruit which was destemmed the same day and left to cold soak for a week before fermentation began. A month after harvest the must was pressed and the wine was put into a new French oak barrel where it matured for 8 months.

The resulting wine is a vibrantly fresh and fruity red with aromas of black berries, blackcurrant, spice and a hint of liquorice. The mouth feel is rich and soft, with delicate and silky tannins. It's full of personality and delicious drinking now.

Pinotage

Chardonnay 2011
Hand harvested on the 31st March, whole bunch pressed, fermented with indigenous yeast and lees-aged for 12 months in a French oak barrel. The 420kg of fruit yielded 30 cases of wine.

The wine is a beautiful pale straw colour with complex lemon, peach, biscuit and a distinct touch of butterscotch aroma.

The mouth-feel is tight and youthful (showing elegance and aging potential) with an interesting buttery finish.

Chardonnay

Dry Riesling 2009
Estate-grown in Waipara, the 2009 is the first vintage of this small boutique vineyard. Hand picked at 22.5 Brix, whole-bunch pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in old Oak barrels.

The bouquet is fresh and vibrant with intense grapefruit, lemon and lime flavours. The palate is tight, crisp, minerally notes and dry finish. The wine is almost bone dry (2gm/L of R sugar). The wine shows a good cellar potential and for the price an irresistible bargain.
